DAWN/DUSK
DAWN/DUSK, (beyond the tree line) is Katherine’s first site-specific installation where the light plays the primary role within her porcelain work. The LED lights are carefully positioned within the tree branches. The lights are connected to an automated sensory system, which regulates the radiating brightness dependent upon the movement and location of the visitors.
The transparency of the exhibition space and the influence of the lighting in which the monochromatic porcelain bark detail crevices are perceived slightly differently depending on the time, and more importantly, the location and motion of the visitors in its presence. In and out of the haze and light, each branch’s bark grooves and knots are multiple ramifications indicating different paths or trails to follow. Since the installation is visitor dependent, this visual light play may intend to be monumental and explicit or insinuated and intimate.
